Congratulations, You’re A Real Estate Agent! Thanks…I Quit!
Posted by tom under the category Tom's Projects
I went to check the mail today for work and received a certificate saying that I had completed my certificate 4 in Real Estate Sales traineeship. This is good news because I have been on a pretty low wage for the last year and it has been pretty hard work but I have learnt so much in the process - especially sales skills.
With the sale of the business most of you will know that I had talked about leaving and taking two months off to focus on my online ventures. Well today I took the first step.
I told my boss I was going to be quitting and asking him how much notice I have to give, and he told me two weeks. Which kind of sucks because the business changes hands on the 1st of December - so I will have to do a couple of days work for the new owner, but it feels like a weight has been lifted off me and I am counting down the days already!
My current boss told me I have to give the notice to the new boss and inform him of my intention to leave, so when he comes in tomorrow I will be telling him. I am hoping he just tells me not to worry about it and that I can finish up on the 30th.
The only thing that has put a damper on it is my current boss who kept telling me that I was acting like a high school student who was quitting just because he didn’t like his new boss - this is because I told him that I thought the new boss’ wife and I wouldn’t get along, which is the truth but not the whole story. It is just a bit frustrating because I don’t really want to tell him about my online ventures because he would probably find a way to turn that into a negative as well, but I guess I just have to push through and wait out these next two weeks.
I am really quite excited about these next two months now because it is not just a thought, it is reality. But it got me thinking:
If you were quitting to work on your online ventures full-time, what would you tell your boss?

congrats on the big changes

i wouldn’t give my boss two seconds thought. He’s old news. I’d finish my 2 weeks or whatever but thats it.
Congratulations! That’s awesome stuff. I wouldn’t worry too much about your boss. Don’t let anyone try to squelch your dreams of success.
Here’s a great post on the topic. I’m sure you can relate and find motivation from it: http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/2007/11/11/quitting-the-day-job-finding-the-guts-to-pursue-your-dreams/
I agree, it’s none of his business. You don’t have to tell him if you don’t want to.
And I think he has a cheek making you work 2 weeks notice when he’s selling.
When I sold my last business, I would have been happy to let staff leave to do other things if that was what they wanted. And getting you to work for the new employer for just two days is plain silly.
Yea. I am just going to try and wit out these two weeks - prepare myself as best I can, so that I am in the best position when I start full-time at home.
Congrats! Wish you all the best with your online ventures.
I never had a job, since I am still a student. But if I quit my job for pursuing my dream, then I would have surely told my boss about it. But I won’t pay any attention to what he think about it.
Its my life… its my decision…
Good news, now you are forced to make it in the online world.. the good thing is now that you have an extra 8-10hours a day to spend on making your dream a reality!
As for the would I tell my boss? Well.. I am my own boss.. so he already knows
Congrats on the big step
I made a similar decision nearly two years ago. I believe that I just told my boss that I was going into business for myself. I worked in IT for a large corporation, so I was easily replaceable.

my boss was much better today, he even mention the idea to the new owner that I finish the day the business changes hands -which the new owner agreed too. (however he still thinks I’m crazy, and maybe I am)
Somehow or other i manage to get myself fired and hired back every day…..
Quitting to pursue your own work however is another thing… Best of wishes with your blog other online work, cant wait to see how it all turns out!
Hi,
Have you quit the job or not? Welcome to the world of blogging…
If you were quitting to work on your online ventures full-time, what would you tell your boss?
I have told my boss that I got a good opportunity in abroad…
